Common questions
How do I save my first thing?
Press ⌘⇧M anywhere in Glade for Quick Save — paste a link, drop an image, or type a thought, and it lands on your canvas. Pressing N on the canvas starts a note straight away.
From other apps, use the share sheet and pick Glade. Whatever you send is waiting in your grove the next time you open the app.
What exactly is a grove?
A grove is a calm, themed space for related things — Reading, Design, Recipes, whatever you like. Each one has its own canvas, its own colour, and its own name. Drag cards between groves, and zoom out to see them all at once.
What are the keyboard shortcuts?
Press ? in the app for the full list. The ones worth learning first:
- ⌘⇧M — Quick Save
- N — new note · / — search · ⌘K — command palette
- ⌘Z / ⌘⇧Z — undo and redo
- ⌘= / ⌘- / ⌘0 — zoom in, out, and back to fit
Can I bring my bookmarks across?
Yes. Glade reads browser bookmark exports (HTML), CSV, JSON, and Markdown or plain text.
- Safari: File → Export → Bookmarks
- Chrome: Bookmarks → Bookmark Manager → ⋮ → Export bookmarks
- Firefox: Bookmarks → Manage Bookmarks → Import and Backup → Export Bookmarks to HTML
There's a review step before anything is added, so you can untick what you don't want.
Can I keep images, notes and links together?
Yes — links, images, video, files, colour swatches and your own notes all live side by side on the same canvas. Notes open into a full editor; saved links keep a readable preview.
How do I share a grove with someone?
Open the grove and use its share button. Glade creates an invitation you can send however you like — it's Apple's own sharing, so the grove stays in your iCloud rather than on a server of ours.
Everyone invited sees the same canvas, and changes appear on each other's devices.
Someone can't open my invitation
- They need Glade installed, and to be signed into iCloud on that device.
- Invitations are per-person by default. If the link was passed on, the new person may not actually be invited.
- Open the grove's share sheet to see who has joined — “invited” and “joined” are shown separately.
How do I stop sharing?
Share sheet → Stop sharing. The link stops working for everyone immediately, and their copy loses access. To remove one person instead, tap the people row and remove just them.
Does Glade sync across my devices?
Yes, through your own iCloud account — there is no Glade server in the middle. Sign into the same Apple ID on each device and your groves follow you.
Because sync runs on iCloud, an account created with Google works fully but on one device at a time, and so does using Glade as a guest. Settings says so plainly rather than pretending otherwise.
My things aren't appearing on my other device
- Both devices need to be signed into the same Apple ID, with iCloud Drive on.
- Check Settings → Sync & storage. It reports what is actually happening: syncing, offline, waiting for Wi-Fi, or storage full.
- If it says “Sign into iCloud in System Settings”, that is the whole problem.
Sync says my iCloud storage is full
Glade's data counts against your iCloud storage. Free up space, or upgrade your iCloud plan, and sync resumes on its own.
Which devices does Glade run on?
| Platform | Needs |
|---|---|
| Mac | macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later |
| iPhone & iPad | iOS / iPadOS 17 or later |
| Sync & sharing | An Apple ID signed into iCloud |
Saving from Safari
Glade adds a button to Safari's toolbar on both Mac and iPhone. One click saves the page you're on, along with anything you have selected — a tick flashes on the button and it's done.
Turn it on once: on Mac, Safari → Settings → Extensions, tick Glade. On iPhone, Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions. You can also press ⌘⇧M instead of clicking.
It works whether or not Glade is open — what you save is waiting the next time you launch it.
Saving from Chrome, Edge, Brave or Arc
There's a Chrome extension in the app's repository under Extensions/chrome. Until it's listed on the Chrome Web Store, load it yourself: open chrome://extensions, turn on Developer mode, choose Load unpacked, and pick that folder. The same folder works in Edge, Brave and Arc.
Clicking the button shows the page, lets you add a note, and saves. Chrome will ask once whether to open Glade — tick “Always allow” and it won't ask again.
Saving from any other browser
Use the bookmarklet. Drag this to your bookmarks bar, then click it on any page:
No extension, no permissions, nothing installed — the bookmarklet just hands the page to Glade. Works in Firefox, Orion, and anything else with a bookmarks bar.
Saving with Shortcuts, Siri or the Action button
Glade adds a Save to Glade action to Shortcuts. Give it a link or some text and it goes straight into your grove, without opening the app.
That one action is also how you get the rest: say “Save to Glade” to Siri, assign it to the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro and later, or to Back Tap in Accessibility settings. There's an Open Quick Save action too, for when you want to type something rather than hand over a page.
What is Discover?
A place to wander through groves other people have chosen to publish. Browse by topic, open one, and follow the links it points at. If a grove helps you, give it sunlight — the quiet equivalent of a thank-you.
Browsing is free on every plan.
How do I publish one of my groves?
Open the grove, press share, and turn on Publish to Discover. Pick the shelf it belongs on and that's it. Publishing needs a paid plan; browsing doesn't.
What goes out is a snapshot: the grove's name, colour and topic, and the title, site and link of up to 60 saves. Not your files, not your images, not your private notes on a card, not your email. Editing the grove afterwards doesn't change what other people see until you press “Update the published copy”.
How do I take a grove back down?
Turn the same switch off. The public copy is deleted straight away, along with the sunlight it was given, and we keep no separate copy. The grove on your own devices is untouched.
Someone published something they shouldn't have
Open the grove in Discover, press ⋯, and choose Report this grove. Tell us what's wrong with it — the report comes to us, not to the person who published it, and we look at every one within a day.
The same menu has Block, which hides everything that person publishes from you immediately.
What's free, and what's paid?
Seedling is free and keeps 100 saved things across 3 groves — the whole app, just with room limits. Nothing you have already saved is ever taken away if you stop paying.
Grove lifts both limits and adds syncing across devices, sharing, and publishing to Discover. Wildwood is the same set of features at a higher price, for people who choose to pay more for the work. It adds nothing else. Evergreen is all of it bought once, with no subscription.
Restoring a purchase on a new device
Settings → Plan & purchases → Restore purchases. It has to be the same Apple ID that bought it.
Cancelling a subscription, and refunds
Settings → Plan & purchases → Manage subscription opens your App Store account. Apple handles subscriptions; we cannot cancel one for you. You keep Pro until the end of the period you have paid for.
Apple is also the merchant for everything bought inside Glade, so refunds go through reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I get my data out?
Settings → Your data → Export your data writes everything to a file you choose. That file can be re-imported into Glade later.
Can I use Glade without an account?
Yes. On the welcome screen, choose Continue as guest. Everything works, but it stays on that one device: no iCloud sync, no sharing and no publishing to Discover.
If you sign in with Apple later, your guest groves move into that account and start syncing.
Deleting everything
Settings → Your data → Delete account erases every grove, card, file and setting on that device, and deletes your Glade data from your iCloud account. It is immediate and cannot be undone — export first if you might want it.
Can you recover something I deleted?
No — and this is worth being clear about: we have no copy of your data. It lives on your devices and in your iCloud account. Deleted things go to Trash inside Glade first, so check there; once Trash is emptied, or the account deleted, it is gone.
